From Uncertain to Exam-Ready

Before the Intensive
- Unsure which text type conventions the examiner expects
- Losing marks on True/False + Justify and multi-select questions
- Running out of time on Paper 1 or Paper 2
- Revising passively without practising under exam conditions
- No structured feedback on writing or comprehension responses

After the Intensive
- Confident in every Paper 1 text type — blog, letter, speech, article
- Systematic strategies for every Paper 2 question format
- Practised time management with realistic exam simulations
- Active preparation through timed writing drills and AI-powered daily practice
- Personalised written feedback aligned to IB assessment criteria
Where Many IB French B Students Lose Marks
Understanding common areas of difficulty is the first step toward addressing them. These are the patterns we see most frequently among IB French B candidates.
Text Type Requirements
Paper 1 requires students to produce a specific text type — such as a blog post, formal letter, opinion column, or speech — with the appropriate conventions, structure, and register. Many students lose marks not because of language errors, but because the text does not match the expected format.
Register and Audience Awareness
The IB markscheme explicitly assesses whether the student has adopted the correct register for the intended audience. Writing a formal letter with informal tone, or addressing a speech without rhetorical awareness, are common reasons for lower scores in Criterion B (Message).
Time Pressure in the Exam
Both Paper 1 and Paper 2 give students a limited window to complete all tasks. Without practised planning frameworks and time management strategies, students often submit incomplete writing responses or leave reading and listening comprehension questions unanswered.
True/False + Justify Questions
The True/False with Justification format on Paper 2 is one of the most common sources of lost marks. Students must state the correct verdict AND provide a precise quotation from the text. Getting only one part right earns zero marks — yet many students give a verdict without quoting, or quote without a clear verdict.
Multi-Select and Pronoun Reference
Multi-select questions require identifying all correct answers from a longer list — selecting too few or too many costs marks. Pronoun reference questions demand precise grammatical analysis to identify what a pronoun refers to in context. Both formats reward systematic reading strategies that many students have not been taught.
Inefficient Revision Habits
Many students revise by re-reading notes or vocabulary lists without actually practising under exam conditions. Effective preparation requires active, timed writing practice for Paper 1 and deliberate reading and listening strategy drills for Paper 2 — not passive review.

What Students Will Work On

Paper 2 Reading & Listening Comprehension
- Master the six reading question types: MCQ, multi-select, vocabulary match, short answer, pronoun reference, and True/False with Justification
